At 14:00 pm on July 28^thof 2017, the opening ceremony for “China-ASEAN Forum on Traditional Medicine Innovation and Development” was held at the permanent site of China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Weekin Guiyang. Being hosted by Guiyang University of Chinese Medicine, this forum was one of the major programs of“China-ASEAN Hundred Headmasters Hand in Hand for the Future” Serial Activities at the opening ofthe 10^thChina-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week. This activity was greatly supported and helped by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Young PhysiciansBranch of China Association for Research and Advancement of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guizhou Provincial Education Department, Guizhou Association for Science and Technology, Guang`anmen Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Guizhou Provincial Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Guizhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Cultivation Culture Research and Industrial Technology Innovative Talent Group.

The opening ceremony of the forum was presided by Liu Wen, deputy headma ster of Guiyang University of Chinese Medicine. Zhu Haidong, deputy director-general of International Cooperation Department of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Yang Hong, deputy director of Health and Family Planning Commission of Guizhou Province and head of Guizhou Provincial Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Liu Bingyin, vice president of Guizhou Association for Science and Technology; Tian Huayong, vice chairman of China Medical Association of Minorities; Wang Zheng, deputy secretary-general of China Association for Research and Advancement of Traditional Chinese Medicine, director of the International Exchange Office and chairman of Young Physicians Branch; and Ms.FloritaMiranda, headmaster of Wesleyan College of Manila, participated in the opening ceremony and delivered respective speeches. Dr. Dennis Colin, president of the Organizing Committee of the2018 UNESCO “World Acupuncture Day” Conventionand vice chairman of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies, sent a congratulatory letter to the forum.

Yang Rongchen, assistant counsel of Laws and Regulations Department of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Prof. Huang Luqi, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering; Ms.Disu, secretary of the Organizing Committee of the2018 UNESCO “World Acupuncture Day” Convention; Mrs. Olivia V. Palala, consul general of Consulate General of the Republic of Philippines in Chongqing; Prof. Zhai Shuangqing, deputy headmaster of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine; Yang Xiaosheng, deputy director of Key Laboratory of Chemistry for Natural Products of Guizhou Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences; and other experts, delivered keynote speeches at the opening ceremony.

In order to further promote the in-depth cooperation between our school and ASEAN countries, enhance the reputation and authority of Guizhou in medicine of national minorities, and complete well the corresponding promotion, propagation and popularization among the masses, during the opening ceremony, around one hundred domestic and international guests also witnessed the sign-up of“Memorandum of Cooperation”between Guiyang University of Chinese Medicine and Wesleyan College of Manila by Prof. Yang Zhu and Ms.FloritaMiranda; the sign-up of“Assistance Framework Agreement on the Industry of“Uncaria”as A Geographical Indication Medicinal Plant in Jianhe of Guizhou”by Prof. Du Jiang, chairman of Guizhou Medical Association of Minorities and head of Pharmacy School of Guiyang University of Chinese Medicine, and Mr. Ao Jian, deputy county chief of the Jianhe County People`s Government; and the awarding ceremony of“Chinese Herbal Medicine Appreciation and Consultation Center” of the century-old enterpriseGuiyang Dechang Xiang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd by Guizhou Medical Association of Minorities.

During the period from July29^thto July 31^st, three sub-programsof the forum, namely“China-ASEAN Training Program for Senior Young Health Talents on Traditional Medicine”, “International Academic Forum on‘Inner Canon of Huangdi’”and“China (Guizhou)-ASEAN Summit on the Development of Innovation-Driven Enlarged Health Industry” will also be held at Guiyang International Eco-Conference Center, library lecture hall of Guiyang University ofChinese Medicine andUncaria planting basein Jianhe county simultaneously.

This forum has been the first self-planning, self-applying and self-undertaking international exchange program of our school during the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week. The forum shall further enrich international cultural exchanges and cooperationon traditional medicine and medicine of national minorities, further propel communications and exchanges among various countries on traditional medicine, expand the cooperation scope, deepen cooperation achievements, and improve the cooperation mechanism. It will raise the foreign exchanges and cooperation in our school on traditional medicine and medicine of national minorities to a higher level, expand its range, deepen its level, and strive for being a new template and new model of cooperation between Chinaand ASEANcountries on traditional medicine.
