Formal Relations between WFCMS and WHO Established

12 March 2015 --The press conference was held by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) to announce the formal relations with World Health Organization (WHO) on 11th March, 2015.Dr, Bernhard Schwartländer, WHO representative in China, representing Margaret Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, attended the conference.
During the conference, She Jing, president of WFCMS, introduced the official relations with WHO. It has been ten years since WFCMS applied formal relations with WHO. The relations embodies that WHO attaches great importance to Chinese medicine, which helps extend international influence of Chinese Medicine. Additionally, it provides more opportunities for WFCMS to be involved in international activities. WHO is a directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for the leadership of global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, and providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
Li Zhenji, Vice president and secretary-general of WFCMS answered the questions of the press circle, focusing on the future cooperation between the two. He said that according to WFCMSand WHO 2015-2017 cooperation plan, WFCMS will do the following four points: promoting the implementation of WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy:2014-2023 by its three level meetings; providing study report on global manipulation; submitting TCM international standards published by WFCMS to support WHO standard and norm setting; submitting the annual report of Chinese medicine to WHO to provide data to prove the effectiveness and safety of Chinese medicine; collaborating with WHO to study and analyze Chinese medicine information.
Other attendees included, Zhu Haidong, deputy director of the department of International Cooperation of State Administration of Chinese Medicine Societies, P.R.C.(SATCM) Ou Yangbo, deputy director of the press office, SATCM, Luo Jun, from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, P,R,C, Jiang Zaizeng, Huang Jianyin, Chen Lixin, Vice secretary-general of WFCMS, and journalists from China Daily, China Radio International, etc.
