The Department of Clinical Medicine 1 (The First Hospital Attached to Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

The Department of Clinical Medicine 1 of FHA is an effective base of cultivating experts of traditional Chinese medicine. Taking on an administration of combining the college and the hospital, the department mainly covers the in-person clinical teaching and internship administration of both undergraduate and graduate students from all majors. This work includes consolidation of basic knowledge and skills of both Chinese and Western medicine and professional training of clinical skills, aiming at producing advanced doctors who can diagnose, teach and research individually in all areas of Chinese and Western medicine. Until now, more than 9000 students have graduated from this program.

Founded in 1956, FHA is the largest “Third Level First Class” Chinese medical hospital in Guizhou province, with a composition of medical treatment, education and research. The hospital adopts equipment worthy of 200 million dollars and more than 1000 ward beds. There are more than 900 staff members in total, with 109 “Advanced Experts,” 60 master degree tutors, 18 “National Chinese Medicine Inherited Professors,” 2 “Provincial Experts” and 11 “Provincial Well-known Chinese Medicine Doctors.” The annual inpatient number exceeds 10000 and outpatient number exceeds 350000. The hospital has titles such as “National Vital Chinese Medicine Construction Unit,” “National Bone-injury Therapist Training Base,” “Official Drug Testing Institution of the Nation’s Drug Administration Bureau” and “The Vital Lab of Researching Traditional and Local Herbology.” FHA also builds up conspicuous contributions to the Nation’s Drug Administration Bureau, managing 3 “Eleventh Five-year” key professional construction items, 1 consolidation item, 3 key majors and 8 provincial construction items. TraditionalChinese medicine (for rural directional free medical students) Code: 100501

This major is arranged in the early admission batch. Students must sign the directional employment agreement of the health administrative departments at the country level before admission. The students are free of tuition and accommodation during college. After the graduation, the students must work, for at least 6 years, at any of the country level directional institutions. If not able to graduate, the students must return the education expenses awarded.

Target:Train the students to grasp solid general medical knowledge of all areas. The graduates need to work for the rural population, providing comprehensive, continuous prevention, health care, rehabilitation, and other basic public health service.

Target:Train the students to master system of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine basic theories, grasp modern medicine basic knowledge, and undertake work of traditional Chinese medical treatment individually. Traditional Chinese medicine (all medical areas directed) Code: 100501

Target:to teach the students overall concept of Chinese medicine under the guidance of differentiation theory of TCM, make them familiar with both Chinese and Western medicine treatment technology, as well as humanities and social science related content. The students will learn about prevention, diagnosis, treatment, health care, and rehabilitation skills, aiming at becoming long-term, continuous, comprehensive, instructive professionals who emphasize the importance of health of individuals, family units, communities and overall health maintenance. Students after graduation is suitable for medical institutions engaged in the common disease, frequently-occurring disease diagnosis and treatment, and chronic disease management. particularly suitable for community medical institutions engaged in the all medical areas (including prevention, medical and health care, rehabilitation, etc.).

The Department of Clinical Medicine 2 (The Second Hospital Attached to Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

The Department of Clinical Medicine 2 of SHA is the only base of cultivating experts of combination of TCM and Western medicine. Taking on an administration of combining the college and the hospital, the department mainly covers the in-person clinical teaching and internship administration of both undergraduate and graduate students of combination of TCM and Western medicine. This work includes consolidation of basic knowledge and skills of both Chinese and Western medicine and professional training of clinical skills, aiming at producing advanced doctors who can diagnose, teach and research individually in all areas of both Chinese and Western medicine. Until now, more than 8000 students have graduated from this program.

SHA was established in 1981 (its predecessor was Guizhou commercial hospital), with fixed assets of 30 million dollars, 1000 ward beds, 830 on--job worker, including 104 senior professional titles and more than60 master tutors. The hospital has 4 “National Chinese Medicine Inherited Professors” and 6 “Provincial Well-known Chinese Medicine Doctors.” The annual inpatient number exceeds 9000 and outpatient number exceeds 250000. As a "Three Level of First-class Hospital", it combines medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation, with titles such as "The Country’s Infant-loving Hospital," "Important National Construction Unit of Chinese-western medicine", "Advances National Health System".

The hospital is to combine traditional Chinese and Western medicine, focusing on cultivating professional advantages of different majors. It now has 1 key major of “State Administration of TCM,” 3 national key specialized subjects (diseases), one provincial key subject, 10 provincial key professional trains, 1 master's degree authorization center and a provincial demonstrative major. In the past five years, all kinds of textbooks and over 10 monographs have been written,a provincial excellent coursehas been established, and one first and one third prize on provincial teaching achievements have been won. The college also adopts more than 363 items of national natural science funds of all types and at all levels such as scientific research projects, including eight state-level projects.

The students have solid basic skills and professional knowledge, being able to undertake the clinical medical treatment of both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. Graduates work at and are highly rated by all types and all levels of comprehensive hospitals, traditional medicine hospitals and research institutions.

Basic Department

Basic department was established in 1984, mainly for teaching and management of the traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese and western medicine in clinics for the first three years of college. And it is partly responsible for teaching the general courses of the traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine professional foundation for all majors. It has 1 province-level key subject, 4 master's degree authorization centers, recruiting both domestic and international graduate students.

Solid teaching faculty: Basic department has a group of well-known experts and professors. The department in total has 135 teachers, of which there are more than 60 high titles, more than 80 master's degree or above holders and 2 province-level teachers. In the past five years, in order to adapt to the teaching reformation of higher education and newer situation, the department strengthened the foundation of teaching management and teaching reform, and introduced heuristic, exploring and provoking teaching methods. Books like“Problem-based Type of Teaching" in Physiology Application ResearchandRural Chinese Medicine Talented Training Mode and Teaching Reformwon the country’s teaching achievement second prize;TCM Tongue Diagnosiswon the first prize of provincial level teaching achievement, whileChinese Medicine Five-element Serial Achievementtook in provincial science and technology progress prize. The department also builds 5 provincial excellent courses, annually acquiring several National Natural Science Funds and other great scientific research projects.

Advanced teaching and experimental equipment: Basic Department established microscopic form laboratories, functional laboratories, Chinese medicine laboratories, computer science laboratories, pharmacology laboratories, microbiology laboratories, physiology laboratories and a human anatomical experiment and teaching platform. Besides, it includes 4 provincial basic course teaching laboratories, 2 provincial administrations of traditional Chinese medicine second-level laboratories, one first-level laboratory, undertaking all the professional courses and experimental teaching tasks of all majors. The laboratory has advanced laboratory equipment: MS-4000 biological signal processing system, automatic biochemistry analyzer, multi-channel physiological meter, pulse condition model, pulse condition meter, laser-gathering microscope,upside downfluorescence microscope, upside down differing microscope, carbon dioxide incubator, Ⅱ extremely bio-safety cabinets, biological image analyzer, brain stereo equipment, ultraviolet light points off degree program, automatic marking meter, automatic enzyme organization dehydrator, microscopic interactive system, image analyzer, PCR instrument, etc. The equipment costs more than 1 million dollars; labs are open all day.

The students have a strong faith of dedication. Moral education is emphasized on the basis of professional skills. Also emphasized is broad collection sciences, humanities, arts, healthy student life, innovation, and consciousness. Students from this department have won the first place in Guizhou area for seven consecutive years in "CCTV cup" national English speech contest, with one student having grasping the national runner-up. The students also repeatedly obtain success at various levels of essay contests. Wu Ceng, Jian Lei respectively got the fourth and the sixth “National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award.” “National Best College Student” Tao Ying, “National Volunteer Service Award" receiver Tang Kaiwen,” and winners of “The Outstanding Youth Volunteers” Chen Yongye and Chen Youqiang all graduated from this department.

Medicine Department

Established in 1975, Medicine Department mainly raises students with Chinese pharmaceutical and related basic medical knowledge and skills. This department is responsible for training specialized graduates who can work in medicine production, scientific research, applied research and management. At present, there are seven majors, with two professional construction characteristic points and three provincial demonstrative majors. Also included is a state-enterprise technology center (cooperation), a“State Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine”key major, a “State Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine” Level 3 laboratory, one provincial key subject, 2 provincial research centers, one provincial key laboratories and 3 research centers, and master degree awarding institute.

The teaching and scientific research ability is outstanding: existing staff is 96 people, among which are 21 senior professional titles, four vice senior professional titles, 2 doctoral supervisors, 32 master tutors, 4 state council and the provincial government special allowance experts, 2 province administrating experts, and 2 provincial teaching masters. for the last five years, the teachers has published 15 monographs and 526 dissertations, of which 26 were SCI; also won is 2 first prize of provincial teaching achievements. Editing 18 textbooks and 2 exquisite courses, the staff is entitled for "Chinese medicine (national medicine) new drug research technology innovation talents team," which is the first science and technology innovation title won in Guizhou province. Science and technology innovation and contribution are outstanding too: for the last five years, the department has adopted 221 scientific researches, with a research fund of 2000 yuan. The scientific research awards at various levels in the province reaches 16, with a scientific and technological progress first prize, a second prize and 6 third prizes. Having developed or participated in the research of 40 new drugs of TCM (including miao medicine). Its scientific research innovation ability in the west have reached advanced level compared with departments of similar levels; the department is praised as “the state ministry of the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine excellent unit of science and technology industry base construction.” The special majors of this department have characteristics like “national medical research”, “wide influence,” and “academic researched.” Medicine Department is gradually becoming the core base of pharmaceutical researches in the country.

Promising prospect of obtaining employment: Ever since being built, Medicine Department has been transporting a large number of graduates to places around the country and supporting Chinese traditional medicine and Guizhou nation’s medical industries with staff resources. The graduates from this department are universally employed and welcomed, many becoming leaders and backbones of pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical production management enterprises, medicinal materials management departments, traditional Chinese medicine colleges, research institutions, pharmaceutical inspection institutions and other related units. For many years the rate of graduates’ obtaining employment has stayed above 98%.

Science of Chinese pharmacology Code: 100802

This major only recruits science students, including three sub-majors, TCM medicine, analysis direction and Miao medicine direction. For all three directions, students study TCM main courses as foundation in the first two academic years, and by the third year and beyond begin to differentiate based on characteristics of different professional directions.

Target:to cultivate students’ mastering of Chinese medicine basic theories, elementary knowledge and the basic skills, focusing on identification, analysis, and TCM chemistry composition extraction, isolation, and the basic principle and testing skills. Students need to be familiar with basic theories and experimental skills of Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacology and toxicology cultivation. Also required is basic knowledge of clinical application and certain of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and traditional Chinese culture. After graduation, the students will be able to work in areas like traditional production, teaching, scientific research, etc. Nevertheless, good professional ethics, strong practical abilities, big development potential, and innovative awareness are equally emphasized.

Target: to cultivate students’ mastering of Chinese medicine basic theories, elementary knowledge and the basic skills, along with knowledge of drug management regulations, policies and marketing. Students will also be familiarized with Chinese traditional medicine enterprise management, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese traditional medicine goods quality control and inspection standards.

Target: to systematically cultivate the students of basic knowledge of physical chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, medical polymer materials science, pharmacy, preparation equipment, and other related aspects. To make the students grasp skills of preparation research, preparation design and improvement, and production and drug preparation process design and technology. Students will be trained of preliminary scientific research and actual working ability, and become talents of drug preparation with research and development, design and improvement, and dosage forms of drug preparation process.

Target: Training of the basic theories and basic knowledge about chemical medicine, biological medicine, Chinese pharmacy, drug preparation technology and engineering. Bone Injury Department

Bone Injury Department was established in 1988, mainly training advanced specialized talents of Chinese medicine and Chinese and Western clinics. The department has one master's degree awarding center (bone injury in traditional Chinese medicine science), one provincial key subject, and two “National Well-known Bone Injury doctors.” Meanwhile, there is one bone injury research center and two attached hospitals with bone injury wards and outpatient service. It is entitled as “The National Health and Clinics Education Base.”

The staff has outstanding teaching and clinical ability: present faculty includes 30 famous professors, of which there are 13 Senior Doctors, 12 Vice Senior Doctors and 13 master tutors. Under the guidance of famous bone injury experts Shi Guangda and Shen Fengjun, the team excels at curing bone injuries with traditional Chinese methods. Introducing and developing modern orthopaedic technologies and new therapy methods, the doctors can carry out a lot of difficulty orthopaedic surgeries, which stands on the leading position in the country. The department also pays attention to the combination of teaching reformation, research innovation, and practical skills.

The students exhibits solid clinical skills: not only do the students master Chinese medicine theories and traditional bone disease methods, but they are good at grasping modern orthopaedics theories and clinical skills. Target:train the student to grasp Chinese medicine elementary knowledge, traditional Chinese medicine basic theories about bone injuries and Chinese medicine clinical skills. The training includes natural science and modern medical knowledge. The students will accept solid training of traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine clinical skills of orthopedics, along with traditional Chinese medicine clinical diagnosis, orthopedics, teaching and scientific research basic abilities. Department of Acupuncture and Massage

Acupuncture and massage department was established in 1986, having been cultivating talents of Chinese foreign exchange abilities, innovative spirits and practical abilities. Now the department is recruiting domestic and international graduate students. It has one master's degree authorization centers (acupuncture and massage), 1 “The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Key Subject,” 1 provincial key subject, 1 “The Ministry of Education Characteristics Professional Construction Point,” 1 provincial demonstrative major, 2 provincial excellent courses. Its acupuncture comprehensive laboratory is entitled as "The Professional Laboratory in Guizhou Province".

A team of high-quality teachers: The faculty includes 28 professional teachers, of which there are 6 Senior-level professors, 11 Vice-seniors, 16 master or doctor tutors 16, 1 high-level featuring expert, 1 provincial teaching master, and 3 collegiate teaching masters. The department’s “Experimental Acupuncture” is the acupuncture teaching quality and reformation construction project for the ministry of education. The department has for three years undertaken more than 40 researching items of the country, the province, and the local bureau, having won numerous awards.

Paying attention to training students' innovative and practical abilities: to carry out the idea of “education for use,” the department keeps cooperating 71 professional skill appraisal institutions to enhance the students' skills, students being awarded Senior Massager during the period of school. The department regularly organizes the students to participate in the teachers' scientific researches and develop specialized technological practice activities, aiming at strengthening the students' creative ability of science and technology, communication, coordination, and team cooperation. Target:to cultivate students’ mastering of Chinese medicine basic theories, elementary knowledge and basic skills, and of modern medicine clinical practice, acupuncture, and massage skills. Learn to make a diagnosis and give treatment to common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases based on Chinese and Western medicine knowledge and skills. Get familiar with humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and traditional Chinese culture. Grasp computer application elementary knowledge and skills; understand professional English books. Our graduates will mainly work in hospitals at all levels in more than 10 countries, or comprehensive hospitals of traditional Chinese medicine and research institutions engaged in acupuncture, massage and medical education/scientific researches. Also possible is getting employed in all levels of rehabilitation medicine institutions and rehabilitation medicine departments that combine traditional Chinese with Western medicine.

Nursing Department

Nursing Department was established in 1999, and was the first undergraduate nursing department in Guizhou Province. The department now includes two majors, nursing professional and nursing (English direction), whereas nursing professional is a provincial demonstrative major. The number of present students is more than 2000; there are 7 classes of graduates whose number exceeds 1000. The rate of employment has been successively kept at 100%.

Experienced teaching team: there are 30 professional teachers and 16 part-time teachers, of whom those with master's degree or above take six seats. All the 15 Senior Professors have more than 20 years of work experience in nursing. Many teachers undertake positions like “China Nursing Associates,” “Member of Guizhou Province Nursing Association,” and “Secretary of Provincial Nursing Association.” The department pays great attention to learning from foreign advanced nursing teaching concepts, frequently sending faculties to Northumbria University of Nursing and Hong Kong Nurse foundation for study and training.

Prominent teaching and scientific research achievements: the department strengthens the idea of "overall care," combining TCM nursing with contemporary nursing development efforts. They are also striving to explore more of undergraduate teaching modes. For example, the present teaching mode introduces "Split" teaching method, introspection teaching method, reflection behavior guide, benchmarking type, students' autonomous teaching method, etc. Its educational reform subject “The Undergraduate Nursing in Guizhou Province: Talents Training Mode and Teaching Reform” won the second prize of Provincial Medical Research and Reform, and a progress prize of “China Nursing Association.” The nursing skills training integration model system of research and practice won the third prize of educational reform achievements at college level. The teachers meanwhile participated in editing 4 textbooks like “Nursing Psychology” and “Surgical Nursing.” The department has one provincial educational reform subject, 12 collegiate educational reform subjects, 6 provincial traditional Chinese medicine scientific research topics, 3 institutional scientific researches. Advanced experimental and teaching condition: the department has equipment such as anesthesia machines, breathing machines, remote monitoring instruments, transparent recovery, Annie recovery, delivery machines (model of human embryos), multi-function nursing beds, ultrasonic inhalers, oxygen inhalers, electric lavaging machines, electric attractor, etc. The department also provides students’ training with electronic teaching-demonstration classrooms and multimedia teaching equipment.

Paying attention to the construction of practice bases: the department has many practicing bases, including two attached hospitals, Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Hospital, Beijing Guang’an Gate Hospital, Beijing Xiyuan Gate Hospital, Beijing Navy Hospital, Shanxi Medical University First Affiliated Hospital, and Guizhou Province People's Hospital, all of which are Third-level of First-class hospitals.

Medical Humanities Department

Medical Humanities Department was established in 2001, and is the first medical college in Guizhou province to offer law degree and bachelor's degree in applied psychology. It considerably contributes to medical system reform and modern medical patterns, makes great efforts to meet the social need of medical senior talents of traditional Chinese medicine, and accelerates the development of the framework of TCM diversity.

Paying attention to practice education: the teaching team is highly experienced with efficient knowledge structure. There are in total 31 professional teachers, of which there are 9 senior titles, 8 master tutors, and 2 college level teaching masters. The department has one provincial key subject, along with four college level professional courses. In order to strength the students' practice ability, the department develops teaching practice bases such as the first and second attached hospitals for relevant professional medical practices, the intermediate people's court, Guiyang City Public Security Bureau for law school practice, and Guizhou Province Second People's Hospital, Chengdu people's hospital, Shantou University Fourth Mental Health Center for clinical psychology teaching and internship.

Teaching facilities: the department has advanced psychology labs and moot courts. Target:train the student to have solid basic knowledge of both Chinese and Western medicine and to master Chinese and Western medicine clinical practice skills. They are required to correctly treat common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases using Chinese and Western medicine knowledge and skills. Equally emphasized is Chinese “treating without symptoms” and Western disease prevention knowledge. Students need to be familiar with medical ethics and government policies and regulations. Moreover, this major also offers domestic and foreign medical psychology theories, practice and progress; students get trained of certain clinical abilities of medical psychological teaching and scientific researching. This professional educational system takes six years, divided into a 4.5-year period of traditional Chinese and Western medicine clinical medicine and a 1.5-year period of applied psychology (clinical psychology direction). On the first stage (4.5 years), students will be awarded professional diploma and bachelor’s degree in medicine, and proceed to the second study stage; those who can not reach the second bachelor's degree may switch their major to Chinese and Western clinical medicine. Vocational Education and Adult Education College

VEAEC was established in 2000, whose predecessor was the department of adult education. The college simultaneously provides ordinary vocational education, skill and tech education, and adult college education (off-job, spare time, night school, etc), and offers short-term traditional Chinese medicine training.

Ever since VEAEC was founded, the ordinary vocational and skill and tech training have fostered more than 2000 professional workers with solid medicine basic knowledge and strong operating abilities, who cover areas like traditional Chinese and Western medicine, nursing, Chinese medicine pharmaceutical technology, medicine marketing, pharmacy management information and technology, cosmetology, medicinal plant cultivation, etc. On the other hand, the adult education has trained more than 5000 students (on-the-job personnel) in the province, contributing to the health development of public health care in Guizhou minority areas.

Introduction to Postgraduate Educational

The postgraduate Education of Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1978. It is the first college which is entitled the right to award master degree by the General Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. In 1993, the Education Committee of China approved our college to enroll the students from Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan as postgraduate. In 2003, our college is one of approved units to train the clinical medicine postgraduate and award the master degree according to approval of the Degree Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. In 2008, our college is allowed to enroll the teachers of other universities to study as on-job postgraduates.
